Cardiorespiratory Fitness
Cardiorespiratory fitness is sometimes called cardiovascular fitness, cardio, endurance, aerobic fitness or aerobic capacity. Cardio fitness is needed for prolonged, rhythmic use of the body's large muscle groups.
Cardio fitness is a condition in which the body's cardiovascular (circulatory) and respiratory systems function together, especially during exercise or work, to ensure that adequate oxygen is supplied to the working muscles to produce energy.
Respiratory (breathing)
Supplies the blood with oxygen in order for the blood to deliver oxygen to all parts of the body. When we breathe, we inhale oxygen into the alveoli of the lungs, and then it diffuses through the capillaries into the arterial blood. Waste-rich blood from the veins releases its carbon dioxide into the alveoli that we exhale.
Cardiovascular (circulatory)
Blood containing oxygen and nourishment flows to every cell of the body, from arteries to capillaries where the oxygen and nutrients are released. The waste products are collected, and the waste-rich blood flows into the veins in order to circulate back to the lungs where the exchange of gases take place.
A high level of cardio fitness permits continuous physical activity without a decline in performance and allows for rapid recovery following fatiguing physical activity.
